Course Includes:

The class will include two days of in-depth Pedestrian crash investigation.

This course will teach students how to determine and estimate the area of impact along with using the pedestrian airborne distance to calculate speeds acquired. Discussion on Scurlock Equations (Airborne Distance) and calculating pedestrian’s horizontal speed loss at first ground impact.

You will participate in an afternoon of field testing and then calculation of the data from testing. Results will then be compared with radar test speeds.  The course will end with a discussion of final topics and issues along with case review of unique cases.

This course will be taught by Mike Reade with Forensic Reconstruction Specialists Inc. Mike retired from the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) with over twenty-five years of service. During that time, he investigated 1000s of collisions and reconstructed 100s of fatal and personal injury collisions. Prior to retirement, Mike was assigned to full-time, collision reconstruction duties for the eastern half of New Brunswick. In 1993, Mike joined the IPTM Adjunct Faculty. Since then, he has developed several training courses and manuals for: Computerized Collision Diagramming, Advanced Computerized Collision Diagramming, and Computerized Crime Scene Diagramming. These courses are conducted throughout the United States and Canada.

As part of the need to find an easier way for investigators and reconstructionists to verify their work, Mike is currently active in developing software (CCD Traffic Symbols for AutoSketch, PEDBIKE 2000 Plus - Pedestrian/Bicycle Specialty Software which now includes the BACalc - Alcohol Conversion Program). This is currently being used throughout the world as a valuable investigative tool.
